Buying a suit

Think of the kind of suit you need before buying. This helps you and the sales assistant choose the right kind of suit featuring the properties you require.

• the shirt should be visible under the collar
• the jacket collar fits closely around the neckline
• the collar is soft and easily falls into shape
• the lapels are soft and thin
• the shoulders sit well and the seam of the sleeve head is smooth
• the jacket rises only slightly when raising the hands
• the sleeve falls freely
• about 1 cm of shirt sleeve is visible under the jacket sleeve
• the lining is not visible below the hem
• the creases are straight
• the seams are straight and smooth
• when fitting, the trouser bottoms should be about 1 cm off the ground when no shoes are worn
• if the suit is striped or checked, the pattern should be consistent at the collar, pockets and seams.
